White Tiger Competes at Andover

Andover Tournament
White Tiger Taekwondo participated in the Air Capitol Taekwondo
Powerhouse Tournament March 29th, 2008. It was hosted by Master David
Perreault. This was an invitation to many schools, but it turned out to be a
little competition between our two schools. There were only two categories,
Poomse or forms, and Sword fighting with padded swords.
Those that participated were Vernan Stout. She placed 3rd in Poomse and
3rd in Gumdo Sparring in the orangebelt division.
“Many of our students have not had formal sword fighting training. Just a
few competed from our Gumdo class. Some are just in our Taekwondo
class so this was a new experience for them. I think they all had fun and
were a little surprised at how fun sword fighting competition could be,”
stated Master Shawn Love, the school’s owner.
Carson Crain placed 2nd in Poomse competition and 2nd in Gumdo
competition in the redbelt division.
Steve Moss placed 2nd in Poomse competition in the redbelt division, and
3rd in Gumdo competition. Steve is a goldbelt in Gumdo but had to
compete with other blackbelts and did very well.
Brandon Love placed 1st in Gumdo sparring competition and 3rd in
Poomse. Brandon is a purplebelt in Gumdo and has been practicing very
hard in his Gumdo sparring getting ready for competition in Chicago in July
and it truly showed in this tournament.
Mark Ward placed 1st in Poomse, and 2nd in Gumdo sparring. Mark is a
1st degree blackbelt in Gumdo and barely lost to his opponent in the
tournament. It was very close. Mark is a 2nd degree blackbelt in
Taekwondo and his loss in Poomse was equally close.
Jennifer Love placed 2nd in Poomse and 3rd in Gumdo sparring. Jennifer
is a 2nd degree blackbelt in Taekwondo and lost by a fraction of a point in
Poomse. She is a bluebelt in Gumdo and competed with the blackbelts as
well and did very good against the other competitors.
Paige Baker placed 3rd in Gumdo sparring and 3rd in Poomse competition
in the Green/Bluebelt division. This was Paige’s first tournament and she
performed very well for her first competition.
Loren Luke placed 1st in Gumdo sparring and 1st in Poomse competition in
the greenbelt division. At first Luke did not want to swordfight, but he was
talked into it and afterwards was very pleased that he did as he came out
with a 1st place medal. He did extremely well.
Rachelle Bloyer placed 2nd in Gumdo sparring. Rachelle is a blackbelt in
Gumdo and she had to go against some pretty good male competitors.
This did not intimidate her as she won her first match and then barely lost
the second earning a very well deserved 2nd place medal.
White Tiger plans to compete in a new Karate event this year in June, in
Moore Oklahoma and will be going to Chicago in July for USNTF
Internationals.
