Winfield White Tiger Taekwondo opened its tournament season with Central Oklahoma Taekwondo Association’s
Annual Taekwondo Championships on February 2nd, 2008. It was hosted by Grand Master In He Won.
The tournament marked a special event with White Tiger as Master Shawn Love was presented with a special
certificate from Grand Master In He Won from the Kukkiwon in Seoul Korea. The certificate was presented to
Master Love for his commitment in the martial arts. This is the second certificate that Master Love has received.
The first was in 2003 in Chicago from Grand Master Duk Gun Kwon. Master Love was very humbled by the
award. The school White Tiger was also presented with an award.
White Tiger Warriors that participated in the tournament were Barbie, Cody and Challen Jimenez. Barbie placed
3rd in Poomse or forms competition and 1st in Creative Poomse competition in the blackbelt division. Cody
placed 1st in Sparring competition and 2nd in Poomse competition in the blackbelt division.
“Cody had an awesome showing in sparring as he defeated two fighters for 1st place. I am very proud of him.
He showed a lot of strength and endurance to win,” stated Master Love.
Challen placed 2nd in Sparring and 3rd in Poomse in the goldbelt division. “Challen is our youngest student and
he did a great job. He got hit pretty well in his match but he toughed it out and finished the match. I thought he
got hit pretty hard and wouldn’t finish but he wanted to go on and pulled out a second place medal. To say he
did well is an understatement,” explained Love.
Jennifer and Brandon Love competed in the blackblet division. Jennifer, our Chicago Grand Champion placed
1st in Poomse in the 2nd degree blackbelt division, and 2nd in Self Defense. Brandon placed 2nd in Sparring,
2nd in Poomse, and 2nd in Creative Poomse.
“Brandon’s fight was very intense until he got kicked in the face. He was having a hard time seeing due to his
eyes watering. He just toughed it out and started fighting his fight in the second round but he was behind in
points. I think with just a little more time he might have pulled out the win. I am proud of his placing though,” said
Love.
Mark Ward placed 2nd in Poomse and 3rd in Sparring in the 2nd degree blackbelt division. “Mark’s fight was
extremely competitive. He showed a lot of skill and courage by going up against some of the top ranked young
blackbelts out there. He got a few kicks in but took a few to the head which prevented him from getting the win.
He fought as hard as I’ve ever seen him, so I know he fought with all his heart,” said Love
Carson Crain placed 2nd in Poomse and 2nd in Sparring in the redbelt division. “Carson is coming along great in
his training. He will be one of our top blackbelt competitors adding to Brandon and Cody. They fight with all they
have every time we go to a tournament. We as a school have moved from just going to coming out with 1st and
2nd places and it is with students like Carson that we are making a mark in competitions across the nation,”
stated Love.
Leanna Setzkorn placed 1st in Self Defense. She and Jennifer helped each other in the blackbelt Self Defense
division and Leanna squeezed out 1st and Jennifer got 2nd.
“It wouldn’t have mattered,” said Jennifer Love. “We were there to have fun and our placing doesn’t have
anything to do with the friendship that we have for each other when we compete. We all go as a family and we all
win as a family, and that is what White Tiger is all about.”
