Coming back from Chicago opened some insightful challenges. One of the challenges will be in Koryo Gumdo. As Dr. Duk Gun Kwan struggles to provide a more uniformed program, White Tiger is getting conflicting information from Woods Martial Arts.
2006 I went to Chicago to test for my 4th Dan and while up there I decided to test for my Cho Dan in Koryo Gumdo. The problem was that what was told to me on the phone was a major difference than what was done on the floor as far as Gumdo.
This time was a catastrophe. Our school, because it is small is being overlooked. Although we have a grand champion each time we go up, we still are looked down on. So I participated in Gumdo with Marcus. Mine was supposed to be a little different. I was supposed to participate in this new form of fighting in Gumdo that never happened. I even sent $15.00 to Woods for a sword that I never received. I then was supposed to get the blackbelt forms for my testing that I never received. This is after I called and emailed for a full year for the information. White Tiger has always paid for the services and this time would not be any different as I offered to pay for this product. It was just never given. So, what do I do. I decided to go to Chicago and test anyways. I think I am the only one that does this as it was very confusing to the people that run the organization, even Woods.
The worse part was that the whole Colorado school was there to watch. Not to participate but just to sit and watch the whole procession. A comment was made if we thought that we did the best we can? I did not answer this question there because I do not feel I need to do others jobs when they sit the panel. You chose to sit there so make the decision. I make it when I go to work, and it is no different. To answer the question though.
Yes I do and I did it the best with what little you gave our school. If I failed at something it was only because of your lack of instruction. I will stand by this statement.
The other problem was the uniforms. The USNTF keep changing them. For a large school, this is not a problem. For a small school in a small town, I can not afford to keep changing them. They were selling a very good uniform and then stopped because they could not get them anymore. Now they want it to be uniformed but we had already compensated because they stopped selling the others and had to look for a new uniform. Now this one is not the right one. They want us to use one of theirs with their logo on the back. I have a problem with this and will not allow some one else's logo on the back of my uniform. This is insane. We have to change again. You can see them on the shop website section of this website.
The last thing that is detrimental to our problem is the blackbelt forms. WE DON'T HAVE THEM. Cool, huh? Here's another problem. They've changed the forms to series 2. We have them but only after buying every tape that they had for the series 1. We have set up the program and were on the right track but now we have to change again.
I would say this much if one of the big wigs are reading this. Let's strive to have more consistency but let's not forget the little people and at least give them the CURRICULUM so that they (we) can accomedate your wishes.
